LBSCI 737 Week 1: Children in Poverty

On October 2008, Marian Wright Edelman gave a speech about children in poverty. Instead of giving numbers, she brought a scenario to her listeners’ eyes and hearts. She tells them to imagine there are six children with 5 children getting every opportunity and the sixth child getting so neglected they often turn to illegal activities and become homeless.

The video expands my knowledge of what a child or childhood by thinking about how the teens and adults now were once these kinds of children. Children who needed opportunities, doctors and places to go may have been forced into a life where the path back is too hard. A child is someone who is just now learning about the world around them. If our history shows that were are not helping to create a better future for the children, then we still have a lot of work to do.
